A Beautiful Day on the Lake

A few months ago Rob sold his boat. Yes friends, the Sea Monkey III in all of her glory was actually purchased by some poor sap who is as in to junky boats as Rob is. With all hope of a new boat shattered by the reality of our financial situation, poor Rob had nearly given up all hope of being the captain of his own vessel again. Well it was at this low point in Rob's boat owning life that the boat gods smiled on Rob and we received a call from my parents saying that if we wanted it, they would give us their old boat. Hallelujah everyone, Rob has a boat again. Now it won't be half as exciting as the Sea Monkey III was since this boat has never almost sank, it doesn't have a giant crack in the hull, and tires don't randomly fly off the trailer while we are towing it, but then again who needs all that excitement anyways!! Today was it's maiden voyage with Rob at the helm. We went to Lake Piru and enjoyed the beautiful day. Thanks so much Mom and Dad. We are in boat heaven!!
The water was sooo cold today. Even though we were all in our swimsuits Rob was the only one brave enough to hop in the water. He swam for about 1 minute before he was freezing his buns off and had to get out.

Sophie loved the boat. She climbed up on everything and explored every nook and cranny. Here she is standing on the very seat that she would fall off of about 15 minutes after this picture was taken. Poor kid.
Conni gave us the great idea to give Sophie a lollipop to suck on so that she would kind of forget about the giant life vest she had on. It worked like a charm! I put on her life vest and she started crying and tried to take it off. As soon as I gave her the lollipop she was as happy as a clam.

What the heck is all of this brown gunk in the water? Rob and I were wondering the same thing as we arrived at the lake. As you drive in you can see the lake below you and it almost looked like a giant oil spill. The park rangers explained to us that all of this yucky stuff in the water is from the fires that burned through here a few months back. Everything was burned and when all of the rains came it just washed everything into the water. I must admit, even though the water was yucky, all of the hills were so green and beautiful.

Okay, for any of you that have been to Lake Piru before, you know that it really isn't that pretty of a lake. I mean the water is nice, but all of the land around it is usually brown and ugly. That was not the case today. Since we've had so much rain everything is green and beautiful everywhere, even Lake Piru. Rob and I just enjoyed all of the greenery around us. It was so nice.
