We took a camping trip to Lake Casitas during Spring Break this year. This was our first adventure as a family in a tent, and it was a success! I think the kids and I like it more than the trailer. Rob still prefers the trailer, something about not freezing to death at night. Whatever! Aside from it being so stinking cold at night, we had a great time. My friend Angela was kind enough to lend us her tent, and we were set. Here is our fantastic campsite. Not too shabby!
Tanner had a great time eating junk food, getting dirty, and then eating more junk food. After all, isn't that what camping is all about?
Sophie was able to ride her bike all over the place. We actually went on a bike ride as a family which was a tad bit too much for her. It was a lot more hilly (is that a word) than we thought. Rob was sure we had just a bit farther to go to the water, but alas we rode back to our campsite and drove there. The next time we come here, we will camp a bit closer to the water!
Tanner hasn't quite mastered the art of fishing yet. He insists on putting the pole into the water handle first!
Scarlett had no interest in fishing, but had a great time playing in the dirt and throwing rocks in the water. Her and Tanner were just as happy as clams playing on the shore.
Sophie on the other hand takes after her father the fisherman. This girl is serious about catching fish! She baits her own hooks, can cast like a champ, and is actually fairly patient as well. This trip taught her what every child comes to learn in our family, the bitter reality and disappointment that all too often no fish are ever caught. Unless you go to a fish farm, which we took her too a few days later!
The handsome Robert Lane Martin
It was so dang cold in the mornings. Tanner was bundled up in his jammies, 2 sweatshirts and sweats. Poor guy! This trip has totally converted us to tent camping. Who knew we were missing out on so much fun!
