Mahattan Kansas, Here We Come!

This summer my mom, the kids and I decided to take a road trip to Kansas to visit James, Malinda and the boys.  Boy are we glad that we did.  We had such a great time with them.  They showed us all that Kansas had to offer, which I must admit was quite a lot.  One of the places they took us was the Topeka Zoo.  It was so awesome.  We saw lots of fun animals and the kids had a ball.  I tried to take a cute picture of the kids, but as you can see, Tanner couldn't quite get how this sign worked.

Inside the bird sanctuary thing we got to see lots of neat birds up close.  So close in fact that this flamingo right here actually bonked poor McCabe in the face with his beak.  Little McCabe ran right into him (by accident) with his cool green tractor and the bird was not happy and let him know.  Luckily it didn't hurt Cabe, only scared him a little.

One of the highlights of the trip was all of the fun fishing that we did.  Sophie was in hog heaven to be able to fish with her handsome uncle and cousins.  They caught lots of fish which is always super fun.

So never having driven to Kansas before, we were able to see lots of cool stuff.  We saw this pretty water fall on the part of the drive when we were stuck in major traffic between Vail and Denver, Colorado.  Somehow seeing new stuff made the ride a bit better.  It is definitely a long 23 hours to get there.

Here is part of a mining town we saw.  You can tell you're sick of driving when you start taking pictures of random things on the side of the road.  I'm sure if I had seen some plaques on the road I would have taken some pictures of those too.  All in all we had a great trip.  James and Malinda were the perfect host and hostess and made sure we had a great time.  From a tour of James' vet school, to firefly and snapping turtle catching, bargain fireworks, cicadas, and trips to the zoo, we'd definitely want to go back next year.  Thanks guys!
